The story of Final Fantasy VII is indeed a complicated one. The game is begun with Cloud Strife, an ex-SOLDIER, who is now a mercenary working with the rebel group Avalanche, who make plans to overthrow ShinRa corporation, who is said to be "sucking the life out of the planet". But as their plans seem to lead themselves in trouble, the group begins to realize that they must not only try to save the city of Midgar, but the whole world. Not only does ShinRa seems to be causing a problem, but the said-to-dead Sephiroth is back. Along with his "mother", Jenova, he plans to take control of the planet, killing anyone who gets in his way.

Cloud, who seemed to had get himself caught in this whole mess, realizes that he and his friends may be the only hope left for the world. Along his journey, he meets several new friends who decide to join the adventure in saving the world. Barret Wallace, a man with a gun for an arm, wants to protect the people of the world, including his daughter, Marlene, and stop both Sephiroth and ShinRa from taking control. Tifa Lockhart, a martial-arts expert and a childhood friend of Cloud, wishes to follow the rest and save the world from this madman. Aeris Gainsborough, a young flower girl with a mysterious, but pure heart. Cid Highwind, a swearing-pilot, whose dream to go into space still grows in his heart. Red XIII, a beast who is said to be nothing more than a specimen. Cait Sith, a sort of strange fortune teller, who no one could quite understand. Vincent Valentine, a vampire who is still haunted by his regretful past in his dreams. And Yuffie Kisaragi, a ninja-girl, whose love for Materia gets her in trouble quite often with the group.

In their journey, secrets uncover and feelings are spoken, as Cloud and his friends realize there's more to their lives than they once thought. And that saving the world wouldn't exactly be a piece of cake.
