After
her death, Aeris' story still was not yet over. According to
The Maiden That Travels The Planet, Aeris remained to be a
spirit that flowed through the lifestream, still not merged with
the planet. There, she met along with the souls of those that
died along the journey of Cloud and his friends. She met with
the members of Avalanche that died at the Sector 7 pillar, all
which had regrets of the way they tried to save the planet. She
also met with Dyne, who still felt guilt for killing so many
innocent people, which kept him from being free. She also met
with those that still had evil thoughts within them, such as
President ShinRa, who felt he had the happier life than anyone
else because of his success and wealth, and Hojo, who was still
filled with madness.
Under the lifestream, Aeris knew that even though she had prayed
for Holy, her duty was not yet done. However, she was still
unsure of what her exact purpose was. She stared helplessly
within the lifestream, as she watched when Cloud and Tifa fell
in, locating Cloud's lost memories. As this occurred, Aeris met
with Zack, who told her of what had happened in Nibelheim and
his meeting with Cloud. This let Aeris know that Cloud really
was "real". She smiled happily, believing she was able to know
who Cloud really was, even if it was just for a moment, as she
watched Cloud and Tifa leave the lifestream together.
When Cloud defeated Sephiroth, somehow Holy was still not strong
enough to stop Meteor from crashing down. Aeris knew now there
was something she still had left to do. Calling forth the souls
of those she had met, they were able to guide the lifestream
above the surface of the planet, preventing Meteor from falling
into it. Her job being done, she smiled at those she knew who
were still alive, before she was finally able to join with the
planet.
Somehow, though, Aeris still ends up saving everyone yet again.
Later, in Advent Children, after Aeris does her best to
convince Cloud that her death wasn't his fault and helping him
rise up to defeat Bahamut, everyone discovers water within Aeris'
church, which seems to have been merged with the lifestream and
turns out to be a cure for the Geostigma that had been killing
many. With Aeris' help, the water rises up and acts as rain
falling down on those with the disease, curing them.
When Cloud "dies", Aeris is there with Zack, and says that he is
too "big to adopt" and Zack tells him that he doesn't have a
place there, thus causes Cloud's "revival". When Cloud wakes up,
a little girl tells him that they were told by "her" that if
they waited there in the church, "Cloud would come". It seems
that Aeris had helped Cloud remain alive, alongside
everyone else. She then appears at the church's door with Zack,
telling Cloud that "everything is alright".
On a side note, It's been to
everyone's beliefs that Aeris' ghost appears in her church when
you return to Midgar after disc one in the game. At first, I had absolutely
no idea what everyone meant. So I waited till the end of disc
two and went to the bone village to get the sector 7 key to get
back to the church and walked around in circles, but...no ghost.
What I had expected to see was some semi-transparent person
floating around, but I didn't see anything of the sort.
So I decided to just try going in the church over and over
again, waiting for this "rumored" ghost. And suddenly, I spotted
it. Or I spotted what I though would have been the ghost that
everyone was talking about. If you focus on the area where the
little girl is the second you walk in, then you might be able to
spot something disappear quite quickly. This must be the
infamous Aeris ghost.
In my opinion, I don't think it's a ghost or anything. I think
it's just a little glitch squaresoft accidently did. But I guess
it was cool to think there was an actual ghost of Aeris walking
around the church. But, after reading The Maiden That Travels
The Planet, Aeris' spirit was within the lifestream, thus
impossible for any "ghost" of hers to remain in the church.
However, at the end of Advent Children, we do see her
sitting in front of some children, just like the said ghost in
the church in the game was said to have been doing.
Oh well. |
